Hidden within a breathtaking bay on Kefalonia's eastern coast, Antisamos Beach is where lush green mountains meet the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea. Unlike many beaches in Greece, Antisamos offers a unique combination of dramatic natural beauty, vibrant turquoise waters and a landscape that feels almost untouched.
Located just a few minutes from the harbour town of Sami, this spectacular beach has become one of the island's most popular destinations. Yet despite its fame, it still manages to offer moments of tranquillity, especially during the early morning and late afternoon.
Whether you're looking for a relaxing swim, a day of snorkelling or simply one of the most beautiful coastal landscapes in Kefalonia, Antisamos is a place you'll remember long after your holiday ends.
Where is Antisamos Beach?
Antisamos Beach is located approximately 3 km from Sami and around 30 km from Argostoli. The road leading to the beach winds through pine-covered hills before revealing one of the island's most spectacular bays.
The drive is easy and suitable for all vehicles, while the scenery along the way offers plenty of opportunities to stop for photographs.
Why Visit Antisamos Beach?
What makes Antisamos truly special is the striking contrast between the lush green hills and the incredibly clear blue sea. Few beaches in the Mediterranean combine dense vegetation with such vibrant coastal colours.
The beach is covered with white pebbles that keep the water exceptionally clear, making it perfect for swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding. The sea is usually calm during the summer months, although conditions may vary depending on the wind.
Nature lovers will appreciate the peaceful surroundings, while photographers will find endless inspiration in the changing colours of the sea throughout the day.
Antisamos also gained worldwide recognition after appearing in the film Captain Corelli's Mandolin, introducing millions of visitors to the beauty of Kefalonia.
Facilities
Antisamos Beach offers excellent facilities while maintaining its natural character.
Visitors will find:
Sunbeds and umbrellas
Beach bars serving drinks and light meals
Parking area close to the beach
Showers and toilets
Water sports during the summer season
Easy access for most visitors
Even during the busiest weeks of summer, the beach is large enough to find quieter spots away from the main organised areas.
The Best Time to Visit
For the calmest experience, visit Antisamos before 10:00 AM, when the sea is often at its clearest and the beach is still relatively quiet.
Late afternoon is another excellent time, as the surrounding hills create beautiful light across the bay and temperatures become more comfortable.
If you enjoy snorkelling, morning is usually the best time, when underwater visibility is at its highest.
Nearby Attractions
Antisamos Beach is perfectly located for exploring eastern Kefalonia.
Nearby places worth visiting include:
Sami, with its waterfront cafés, restaurants and marina.
Melissani Cave, one of Greece's most extraordinary underground lakes.
Drogarati Cave, famous for its impressive stalactites and natural acoustics.
Karavomylos, a peaceful seaside village just outside Sami.

Local Tip
If you're feeling adventurous, combine your visit to Antisamos with a walk up to the Acropolis of Ancient Sami. Few visitors realise that one of Kefalonia's most important archaeological sites overlooks the bay, offering spectacular panoramic views that are every bit as impressive as those from the beach itself.
